When I was bolting the EBC discs on to my rims I could tell a substantial difference in weight and feel compared to the stock Brembos that were coming off. These felt chunkier, heavier and a bit more rigid. I didn’t know if that was a good thing, but it was impossible to ignore. The X-disc is EBC’s standard replacement option, which costs less than the Brembos, but aims to deliver all the same qualities and more… for less money. Bedding fresh pads in is one thing, but I actually gave these an extra session to make sure I didn’t cook them and warp them through being over-eager. I’m glad I did, because once they were on point and my GPFAX pads had worn in against the fresh-faced rolled steel, the result was impressive. Not light and day, but the initial bite seemed to improve once again and the feel through the lever felt more solid. It’s the kind of experience you have to have yourself to fully grasp the difference they make, but my bike’s anchorage suddenly felt a lot more solid; the Suzuki had never stopped so well. Being honest, I hadn’t expected them to make a gnat’s worth of difference, but the lap timer doesn’t lie, and they found a few tenths. From a racing point of view every little helps, but from an economic point of view, I wouldn’t think twice about opting for these over OE if my bike’s discs were thinning faster than Boothy’s hairline. From a pure feel point of view, they gave the bike an edge it hadn’t had previously.
