Fast Bikes

Imay be just writing this at the aftermath of all the shows, including the Motorcycle Live show up in Birmingham, but I’ve got to say, after seeing the new metal and signings for 2020 in person over the last few months, I’m pretty damn excited. Perhaps even more excited than Alex Rins was to meet me, or to see my masterpiece of a picture we’d submitted for Jamie Whitham’s show pass!

I mean, we’ve got supercharged this, wings that, 200+ horsepower floating round like it’s nobody’s business… when will the craziness end? I have to say hopefully never, because I bloody love it.

There were a lot of people floating around at the show eyeing up all the new bikes, so I really hope there’s going to be a load of sales – I know my missus was on one of the sale stands, and they were selling kit left, right and centre, which is always good news.

But mind you, away from new bikes and talking of good news – and I see it this way, have you lot all caught your breath from all the goings in MotoGP? You know, I’m talking mainly about Lorenzo. I think it’s good for him that he’s called time on his career. I think he’s one of the best, fastest riders on the grid, but having an injury like that is no good whatsoever, and you can see how he really hasn’t been himself with it. The Lorenzo we know is completely different to what we’ve seen over the last half a season, so I’d rather be left with the good memories, than see him struggle for any longer. Plus, did you see the relief on his face after that last race? The man has nothing left to prove, and he’s a great guy.

But what about his replacement? If we ignore the name, he’s a former Moto3 champ and the current Moto2 champ, so he does deserve it. But then again, I would love to know how much sway his older brother pulled on that move? I mean, to move on to what is arguably the hardest and possibly best seat on the grid,

leapfrogging the guys with a load of experience, you have to wonder, don’t you? I mean, good for him, but it is a bit mental.

And I mean, maybe that’s a new thing with the Irwin brothers teaming up for Honda in BSB? Maybe that’s the new craze, and it’s something in the genes, but we’ll have to wait and say. In all honesty, the best move for me in BSB has to be Christian Iddon jumping on the PBM bike – that is not a bad deal, and I’m quite excited to see if he can stick it to Brookes and Bridewell on the same machinery. Whatever happens, it’s going to be a bloody good year all round…
