TRIUMPH RELEASE THEIR 2020 TIGER 900 – AND IT’S BEASTIER THAN EVER…

-

Over the last few years, we’ve seen a massive increase in the amount of adventure bikes that are on the market, and to be honest, they’re pretty good; think of ’em like big supermotos, gagging to be thrashed, and it all makes sense.

The latest offering comes from Triumph in the guise of their new Tiger 900, which has been heavily updated for 2020. Let’s start with the engine. Yeah, it may make the same peak power as the previous model, but the torque has been massively increased from 58ft-lb to 64ft-lb, which isn’t too shabby at all. It’s not just about chucking some more torque at it though, as Triumph say that their heavily re-designed engine, and new firing order, not only feel like a twin at lower revs, but will offer up better traction both on- and off-road, and sound seriously naughty in the process.

It’s not all about the engine though, as Triumph have done some serious liposuction on the frame, which when equipped with the bolt-on sub-frame, accounts for a ginormous 5kg weight saving on the previous model.

Saying that though, Triumph will be offering the Tiger 900 in a variety of different model and spec options, with massively varying levels of tech and parts – from the base model, which doesn’t even come equipped with a TFT dash, to the Pro models, which come equipped with a load of Gucci-spec parts; think an IMU-controlled electronics package that includes uprated traction control and cornering ABS, LED lights and even an electronically adjustable shock on the GT Pro. Couple this with up to six different rider modes, shift assist, Bluetooth connectivity, heated seats and grips, and even electronic tyre pressure monitoring, and you’ve got pretty much everything besides the kitchen sink.

The bikes are expected to be in dealers around March, with the base spec starting at just £9,500. Head over to the Triumph website to see the full range…
