FOCUS RS RX
Ken Block’s new 600bhp Rallycross contender...
The Mk3 Focus RS may only be a few months old, but that hasn’t stopped it making a big impression in the world of motorsport already, specifically the fearsome World Rallycross Championship! That’s because M-Sport have teamed up with Ken Block and his Hoonigan Racing Division and Ford Performance to build this monstrous rallycross version of the Mk3 RS, simply known as the RS RX.
Starting with the same five- door Focus that the road-going RS uses, the RS RX is completely stripped of anything that adds unnecessary weight, before a complete set of widened arches are fitted to each corner. Not only does this give the RS RX and undeniably aggressive appearance compared to the standard road car, it also means the racecar can benefit from an increased track width. The WRC-influenced aero package further aids performance, while the incredible 600bhp race-tuned EcoBoost engine and six-speed sequential gearbox sending power to all four wheels means the RS RX can hit 60mph in less than two seconds!
The RS RX is currently competing in the World Rallycross Championship, driven by Ken Block and Andreas Bakkerud. And it’s proving to be very competitive straight out of the box, Andreas Bakkerud won his qualifying race in Portugal back in April. He then went on to reach the final, and eventually finished fourth overall in the RS RX’s first competitive outing. A few weeks later Ken Block went on to make it all the way to the final at Hockenheimring in Germany, where he finished third overall – claiming his first podium of the season and the first trophy for the mighty Focus RS RX!
