Fast Ford

WELCOME TO THE MAY ISSUE! MISSED AN ISSUE? BACK ISSUES AVAILABLE FROM: SHOP.KELSEY.CO.UK

Doing this job I get to see some incredibly impressive Blue Ovals. I’ve been lucky enough to see everything from rally-spec RS200s, genuine ex-BTCC Sierra Cosworth RS500s, 200mph Sapphire Cosworths, 9-second Escorts, 989bhp Cossie-powered 4x4 Focuses, right through to the very latest crop of insane five-pot Focuses, EcoBoost STs, and even massive 5.0-litre V8 Mustangs! And we’ve got plenty more in the pipeline to bring you throughout the rest of the year, and beyond, too!

But despite the obvious attraction of these headlines figures, owning a fast Ford is not just about who’s got the biggest dyno graph! It’s about enjoying the thrill and excitement of driving! So that’s why this issue is dedicated to the ‘road warriors’; cars that don’t grab the headlines with crazy bhp figures, but are arguably even more fun as you can enjoy them every day, and without compromise too!

Take David Richards’ Focus from the cover as an example. After all the hard graft of stitching in a Cossie YB motor and 4x4 transmission, it would be easy to chase 500bhp-plus! But that would actually be detrimental to what the car was built for. Instead, the 330bhp is does serve up is more than enough for British roads, plus it means added reliability, better road manners, and ultimately a nicer experience on the open road. The same is true of Danny Curtis’ Sapphire Cosworth too. Rather than build an untameable animal with a monster spec, Danny’s opted to keep it civilised with sensible mods and around 270bhp. Cameroon Cook’s S2 RST is more of the same; with a 200bhp Zetec conversion it’s ready for the B-road blast! While Ross Erskin’s ex- Group A EsCos rally car is now fully road legal! Elsewhere, there’s a couple of new features for you to enjoy this month too. Firstly our ‘All About...’ series kicks off by explaining everything you need to know about tyres, while our new ‘#printmyford’ feature gives you the opportunity to see your very own fast Ford printed on these hallowed pages! Enjoy the mag!
