WELCOME TO THE JULY ISSUE!
Let me ask you a simple question: 'What got you into the fast Ford scene in the first place?'
Maybe you were brought-up around them? Perhaps your mates owned fast Fords and you were seduced? Or was it a famous car in a magazine or at a show that inspired you?
My point is, there will almost always be a single moment in time that you can look back and say 'Yep, that's when I got into fast Fords'.
For me, that day is still very clear in my mind. I was about 12 or 13 years-old, it was the school holidays so I was out with my dad at work (who was a windscreen fitter at the time) and we had to fit a new front screen to an old Sierra. But it turned out not be any old Sierra, it was a genuine RS500 Cosworth – owned by the same bloke who now owns the one on the cover of this very issue!
As soon as I sat in it, I instantly fell in love. And the more I discovered about the Cosworth range, the more enamoured I became – so much that my main priority in life quickly became owning one. I'd owned XR4is and three-door replicas, but when I turned 18 and the Student
Loans Company lent me some cash for studying at uni, that money was soon spent on something that taught me a lot more than books ever could; a 2WD Sapphire. My fast Ford journey was under way, and ultimately leads me to sitting here today, writing this intro page as the editor of my favourite magazine I used to read back then!
You never know when inspiration will strike - something seemingly innocuous can have a profound effect on your life. If I hadn't have gone to work with my dad that day, or that car was Skyline GTR rather than an RS500, my life could have panned out very differently.
That's why we should never discourage anyone from our scene; something that may not be to your personal tastes could well be a pivotal moment in someone else's life journey!
And if you're looking for inspiration, there's plenty of it in this issue! Packed full of fantastic feature cars, awesome event reports, the latest news and test drives, and a smattering of old school from the archives too, this month we've got the lot.
