JASON MUSTANG V8
Jason sorted the Mustang’s chassis with some Steeda upgrades, before turning up the wick on that thumping V8…
Better handling and more power are the order of the day for Jason
It’s been a busy few weeks of photography for the Mustang Owners Club and this very mag recently, it seems everything has been Mustang related lately. But that’s no bad thing! Covering the Shelby Super Snake a few issues ago made my car feel a little inferior. The Shelby pushes out over 800bhp and has carbon fibre all over the place. Having the ‘Shelby’ accreditation also means it’s three-times the price of my GT; yours for just £115,000 from Bill Shepherd. As a comparison, my GT was used alongside the silver SS to show the differences between the models… I still think the Magnetic Grey is the Mustang’s best colour, especially with
the black wheels to maintain a stealthy look.
The following week I covered a Steeda driving day, full of Mustangs from the Simply Mustangs club and an open air-strip meant for tyre smoke, burning rubber, and plenty of noise! The feature was in the mag a few issues back, a great event and a definite for any Blue Oval owner as Steeda do these for any owner to enjoy. Sadly I was too busy photographing to shred the Pirellis, but I’ll be there next time…!
I met Ben from Motorsport and Performance at the event; his project car was part of a feature for the mag, pushing over 840bhp (to date) it’s a monster of a car! So, after a chat with Ben himself and Robbie from Steeda, I visited the MAP team in Leeds. A remap, four-wheel alignment,
Steeda H-pipe (to create more burble from the V8) and an IRS pack followed. This kit transforms the handling of the Mustang as it tightens up the rear of the Subframe Bushing Support system, and fills in all factory voids in order to eliminate any movement of the subframe. In short, it turns the soft and supple Mustang into a razor-sharp rival for the more established European names of BMW, Audi, and Mercedes. I was amazed by the difference.
Then, with the chassis sorted, I was able to exploit that V8 powerplant too. The remap now has the car pushing out 460bhp, and whether Iʼd want it to go any faster is debatable! Iʼll let you know next month when I return from a 2000 mile road trip down to the south of France…
