WE DIDN’T FORGET YOU, CREWE...

Seasoned pros and the next big things – these are the best players at every club without a representative in the Top 51

-

JORDAN CLARK

ACCRINGTON MIDFIELDER AGE 25 Clark’s 15 goals and assists in all competitions up to March 1 made the winger an asset as Stanley acclimatised to life in League One.

CURTIS TILT

BLACKPOOL DEFENDER AGE 27 Tilt, a late bloomer, began his league career at 26 yet he looks ready to play higher still, now he has curtailed his card-collecting habit.

DAVID WHEATER

BOLTON DEFENDER AGE 32 Only one centre-half in tier two (Adam Webster) can top Wheater’s stats for heading, tackling and accurate passes forward. Yes, really.

JACK PAYNE

BRADFORD MIDFIELDER AGE 24 Payne will be free in July unless Huddersfield extend his contract. His fine attacking displays on loan at Bradford will seduce several clubs.

LIAM SERCOMBE

BRISTOL ROVERS MIDFIELDER AGE 28 In a tough season for the Gas, Sercombe has often been seen labouring on the wing, but his performances in the centre remain solid.

LIAM BOYCE

BURTON FORWARD AGE 27 If it wasn’t for Boyce’s long layoff last season, Burton would still be in the Championship. He is a reliable source of goals and assists.

GEORGE MARIS

CAMBRIDGE MIDFIELDER AGE 23 One of the few joys at the Abbey Stadium in 2018-19, as Cambridge retreat down the table, is in seeing Maris impress across the midfield.

JAMIE DEVITT

CARLISLE MIDFIELDER AGE 28 Devitt and his Carlisle club-mate, Hallam Hope, were both unlucky to miss out on the main list. Devitt in particular is pivotal for United.

LUKE VARNEY

CHELTENHAM FORWARD AGE 36 Clinical in his first campaign outside the top two tiers since 2006-07, Varney works well with Chelsea loan star Jacob Maddox.

TOM BAYLISS

COVENTRY MIDFIELDER AGE 19 With drive, technique and U19 caps, he could one day join Cov alumni Callum Wilson and James Maddison in the England setup.

GLENN MORRIS

CRAWLEY GOALKEEPER AGE 35 Useful in 2017-18, crucial in 2018-19 – Morris has kept Crawley out of danger by making the joint-most saves in the fourth division.

CHARLIE KIRK

CREWE FORWARD AGE 21 The winger has been enjoying David Artell’s switch from 4-4-2 to 4-3-3, though the boss has stopped Kirk tackling – “because he can’t”.

REECE BROWN

FOREST GREEN MIDFIELDER AGE 23 A fine tally of 17 goals and assists in 35 games – mostly in midfield – doesn’t even tell the whole story of his excellent season in Nailsworth.

TOM EAVES

GILLINGHAM FORWARD AGE 27 The third highest scorer in League One as FFT went to press, even with the Kent club in trouble. Look up his volley at Portsmouth.

JAMES MCKEOWN

GRIMSBY GOALKEEPER AGE 29 Going into March, just Gillingham keeper Tomas Holy had produced more saves than Grimsby stalwart Mckeown in the top four tiers.

TREVOH CHALOBAH

IPSWICH MIDFIELDER AGE 19 Ipswich didn’t get a lot right this term, but putting the on-loan Chelsea defender in midfield (where his brother plays) was inspired.

SCOTT WILSON

MACCLESFIELD FORWARD AGE 26 Thrust into a starting role by Sol Campbell, the striker repaid his new boss with eight goals in 10 games for the struggling Silkmen.

JAKE COOPER

MILLWALL DEFENDER AGE 24 The giant centre-half is valuable at both ends: such is Millwall’s set-piece threat, he’d scored or set up a club-high 11 goals by January 1.

SAM LAVELLE

MORECAMBE DEFENDER AGE 22 The young Scot is one of the best readers of the game in League Two and is unlikely to be playing in the basement tier for too much longer.

AARON PIERRE

NORTHAMPTON DEFENDER AGE 26 Though six goals prior to March in all competitions is handy, it is Pierre’s defensive leadership that earned him the captaincy in January.

ENZIO BOLDEWIJN

NOTTS COUNTY FORWARD AGE 26 Boldewijn’s hard work, directness and stunning winner away at Forest Green showed his talent. If only he (and Notts) could be consistent...

CALLUM LANG

OLDHAM FORWARD AGE 20 After last season’s goal-laden spell at Morecambe, the Wigan youngster continues to impress out on loan, this time with the other Latics.

JAMES HENRY

OXFORD MIDFIELDER AGE 29 To have a player of Henry’s undoubted quality contributing to 15 goals is a godsend in a tight League One relegation battle.

GRAHAM CAREY

PLYMOUTH MIDFIELDER AGE 29 Freddie Ladapo and Ruben Lameiras bring the goals, Yann Songo’o the battle, but Carey routinely looks a cut above the third tier.

TOM POPE

PORT VALE FORWARD AGE 33 A lack of creativity in midfield has made Port Vale the league’s lowest scorers, despite the talismanic Pope’s Valiant contribution.

JOHN SWIFT

READING MIDFIELDER AGE 23 Swift has been the Royals’ top performer for most of the season, and in Jose Gomes’ 4-2-3-1 system his influence has only increased.

WILL VAULKS

ROTHERHAM MIDFIELDER AGE 25 The Millers’ best player offers fine tackling, a powerful shot from range and a killer long throw – and then there’s the goal celebration...

FUNSO OJO

SCUNTHORPE MIDFIELDER AGE 27 Ojo left the Eredivisie for League One Scunthorpe – as you do – where his displays in defensive midfield are enticing Championship clubs.

FEJIRI OKENABIRHIE

SHREWSBURY FORWARD AGE 23 On-loan Rangers midfielder Greg Docherty is key, but Okenabirhie has traded non-league (and England C) for tier three with ease.

SIMON COX

SOUTHEND FORWARD AGE 31 As one of the few players to escape Southend’s injury hex, Cox has been a vital source of goals, whoever is playing around him.

SCOTT CUTHBERT

STEVENAGE DEFENDER AGE 31 Boro lack firepower yet have been in the top half all season, thanks in part to a defence led by Cuthbert, a former Celtic youth product.

JOE ALLEN

STOKE MIDFIELDER AGE 29 The Welsh midfielder extended his deal to 2020 last June. He probably wasn’t expecting to be Stoke’s top scorer in a dire campaign.

MICHAEL DOUGHTY

SWINDON MIDFIELDER AGE 26 After years bouncing around on loan, the straight-as Harrow alumnus has seized his new start. He is a delightfully composed finisher.

GEORGE DOBSON

WALSALL MIDFIELDER AGE 21 The young Saddlers captain is enduring a difficult 2019 but he played every minute up to December, earning a contract extension.

DEJI OSHILAJA

WIMBLEDON DEFENDER AGE 26 With the Wombles facing up to a likely return to League Two, interest in their skipper and standout player will increase yet further.

CURTIS THOMPSON

WYCOMBE MIDFIELDER AGE 25 Thompson having last year’s loan made into a full-time deal, then a contract to 2021, says all you need to know about his midfield displays.

TOM JAMES

YEOVIL DEFENDER AGE 22 His senior debut was in the top flight for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s Cardiff, and he nearly joined West Brom last year. His time will come.
