VIEW FROM THE STANDS

- ROB SUTHERLAND

The big talking point among the fans is whether Roy Hodgson will be manager at the start of the season. Post- lockdown, Palace endured a seven- game losing streak. Familiarity breeds contempt and many fans have had enough. This season will be different to last because Palace might actually spend some money this summer. They have to. The result of the club’s parsimony has been dreadful form during the busiest spells of the season, as an ageing squad labours under the pressure.

I won’t be happy unless Palace sign a striker capable of scoring at least 10 goals next season. Our most underrated player is James Mccarthy. Palace play better with him in midfield – his niggly play makes him a difficult opponent.

Look out for Tyrick Mitchell. Patrick van Aanholt’s dislocated shoulder finally gave the youngster his senior look- in late last season. Mitchell improved in every game. The player I’d happily drive to another club is Christian Benteke: a striker who doesn’t score goals.

The pantomime villain will be Lewis Dunk. We are not friends.

The one change I’d make would be that our kits have more red than blue – like the 1990 FA Cup shirt.

The fans’ opinion of the gaffer is unconvinced, now. There’s a distinct feeling that he doesn’t make the most of what’s available.

If he left, he should be replaced by Eddie Howe, if we actually wanted something different. We’ll finish between 10th and 14th with the right signings. Without them, in the bottom three.
