First times, last times with… didirri

First time you crushed on someone? Backstage at a musical theatre production when I was 12. She was the lead and I was in the chorus – classic. Last time you felt truly free? Recording in LA recently. I felt so far away from my actual life in Australia and free to express whatever I was feeling at the time. First time you fell in love with performing? I’ve been attracted to all forms of performing since birth. I love bringing people together and hopefully distracting them from their phones for an hour so I can take them somewhere else. Last time you had writer’s block? The beginning of last year – it was a month or so of struggle. It feels like the lyrics are hanging on strings in a dark room and you’re flailing about, hoping to catch something good. When you get it, the lights turn on. First time you met one of your idols? It was the musician Glen Hansard. It keeps happening, though: every time I feel like I’ve met the top of my list, someone else climbs in there. I would love to meet Elton John – I reckon he’s next. Last time you were moved by art? When I was looking at Madeleine Peters’ exhibition Heaven Below and saw some incredible works in blue. First time you got a really bad haircut? When I was 17. My sister gave me a pretty bad bowl cut, so I’ve tried to get minimal cuts since then – hence the long hair. Last time you spent too much money? When I bought a terrible piano and got it tuned. The tuner said there are only two brands they don’t recommend and I’d bought one of them. But I like it, so hey.
