Filling the blanks with… KIT

-

Hello, my name is Katie Wighton, also known as KIT.

The first song I wrote was horrific. It was called “Could It Be”. My high-school besties still screech it at me after a few wines. “Could it be, that it’s true, I’m in love with you.” Facepalm. For me, the best part of making music is writing with other people. I love taking a half-baked idea to a genius and saying, “HALP!” The worst part is suffering from inevitable bouts of impostor syndrome and being away from friends and family for months at a time. When I’m not writing or performing,

you’ll find me baking, listening to music or doing a crossword. In a year’s time, I hope I can go to LA and write music, and that the world has retained some of this slowness we’re all currently experiencing. The

first thing I do when I get up is stretch my body and meditate (on some days). Other days, it’s just mindless Tiktok – I’m not perfect. I think I’m very good at flipping coasters, but if you want to impress me, be kind. Own your mistakes. Work hard. Strive to be a better version of yourself. And make me laugh. The best piece of advice I’ve received is from my mum. It’s a tie between ‘nothing ever stays the same’ and ‘shit happens’. The first one is good to remember when you feel like hell – it makes you appreciate the good times. The second is just bloody true! When I realised life is incredibly random and the world doesn’t owe me a dime, I was much happier.
