A little chit-chat with… CLYPSO

-

How would you describe your sound? I don’t usually narrow it down to a genre, but I like describing it as troppo chilli flakes. It’s influenced by global music culture and dance music. How did you start making music? I’ve played keyboard instruments since I was a kid. My early keyboards had sequencers on them, so I was making mini songs even back then. A turning point was when Mum took me to Cirque du Soleil and the soundtrack was such an eclectic mix of world and electronic music; it had so many layers and it was being played live. I knew from that moment that I wanted to make music professionally. What would people be surprised to learn about your music-making process? I play almost everything, even drums and percussion. I like creating my own samples, as well – they’re usually just original melodic ideas, but can be resonance from a snare, a creaking door or mouth clicks. I’ve got a cute recorder sample I made coming up in a future song, too. Which tropical location would you most love to visit? I went to Kauai in Hawaii with my best friends last year and it was genuinely the best location and experience. We’re hoping we can go back and explore Maui soon. I felt like I was in my natural habitat! Do you have a hidden talent? I can imitate bird sounds accurately. Also, I’m an asset to a trivia team – I tend to remember random things better than important things. What’s your signature dance move? The feet shuffle. It’s literally all I did in my first music video, “YOLO”. What’s your favourite way to kill time? Catching up on messages I’ve left on ‘seen’.
