PHOTOGRAPHY

- LUISA BRIMBLE FOOD AND LIFESTYLE PHOTOGRAPHER

Why do you do what you do? Because it brings an inner joy and satisfaction. I love every minute of it. How do you stay motivated and

interested in your work? If I need to feel fired up and motivated, I write down all the things I want to do, who I want to work with, and the type of people I want to surround myself with. Recently I did a mind map of who I am as a person and it brought so many new ideas – there are lots of things bubbling up. Any tips for conquering self-doubt or criticism? I come across a lot of self-doubt – it really stops you in your tracks. Everybody needs to read The War of Art by Steven Pressfield. It will really help you conquer that quick smart. What advice would you give someone starting out in your field? You need to start living and breathing it. Immerse yourself in the world of photography. In today’s digital world, there’s a plethora of information available. Start with something that really resonates with you; that makes your heart sing. It could be a style of photography, it could be how someone edited their images, or it could be the emotions stirred up by an image. What obstacles have you come up against in your career? Not voicing what upsets me or what I disagree with. It took a major, life-changing and emotionally painful experience for me to notice this. I learnt that I have to look after myself first before I can help others. What are you looking for in this year’s Good Stuff awards? I'll be looking at intentionality and how entrants are able to use the elements of design to draw my attention. I love looking at bodies of work and previous projects, because that’s where I can see someone's passion and love for what they do.
