Tell us about your current studio… “I just make stuff in my room. I live in a house full of students, but I don’t care and force them to all endure my stupid music all night.” You have a narrative arc and characters that run through your EPs and album – how does that fit into the creative process? Do you plot out a story before composing the tracks, or is it something you piece together later? “I think about it all at the same time. It’s the only way I can really make stuff, for some reason.” What DAW do you use, and why did you choose it? “I use Reason because I’m an idiot. Wish I could get Ableton to like me, but my mixes always sound like shit. Reason sounds phat… too bad it means I can’t ever collab with anyone ever. Sinjin Hawke and Zora Jones were making beats in my room on Reason, and it was so funny watching a fresh pair of eyes slowly realise the pain I have to endure every time I open my DAW.” Your music uses a lot of detailed and often complicated beat programming. What are you using to do this? “Whatever on. this There’s stuff. I don’t I no can real wanna get consistency my get grubby into to hands too many habits.” The sounds are running a lot of bright, throughout digital Neo synth

create Wax Bloom those? – what are you using to “I fruits plug and 1/4 sample inch jacks their into Inner different Circumferential Resonance™ mostly.” What one piece of gear in your studio could you not do without, and why? “Apricots, because they sound like staccato choirs.” What’s the latest addition to your studio? “I bought a rotten kiwi from the corner store and it makes a mean granular bass when I warm it up to 14 degrees.” What dream bit of gear would you love to have in your studio? “A pair of gloves that work with a laptop touchpad because it gets really cold.” When approaching a new track or project, where do you start? “Get bored enough at school that I run home and make music to pretend I’m not in real life. Plug a melon in or something and let it rip.” What are you currently working on? “Loads of stuff, some not even music. That might sound a bit whack, like I’m making some half-arsed VR thing that nobody will care about, but it’s way better than that. It’s gonna be cool.”
