Reverb to infinity– and beyond

Modulation sources at the ready: let’s bend and shape between reverberant spaces and other FX, using the Make Noise Erbe-Verb

First things first, sequence a familiar sound and pattern then plug your audio into the input. Turning up the mix to half-way adjusts the size, tilt, absorb and decay to move through different familiar reverb spaces. Keep the modulation depth low to hear the pure tones.

Let’s make an infinite reverb tail. Turn up the decay until oscillation occurs, then use the envelope follower output and plug that into the decay CV input; invert it with the onboard attenuverter to keep the decay at an infinite but non-oscillating level.

We can make our reverbs shimmer by using the onboard modulation. Turn the modulation depth all the way to the right for ergodic modulation and adjust speed to taste. You can then use external modulation to adjust the level of shimmer throughout your patch.

Once you’ve explored vast infinite spaces you can also explore small spaces and more basic modulation FX. Set the size and decay to the lowest settings and use the onboard cycling modulation to create a chorus. You can then adjust absorb/tilt to shape your tone.

It’s rare to see a reverb with a tempo input, so plug in a clock signal and adjust the pre-delay to hear tempo sync divisions and multiplications adding a delay to the reverb tail. This works great with drums to create a softer diffused echo.

Cranking up the decay will lead to oscillations that sound like metallic feedback trails. Using external modulation adjust the size, tilt, absorb and internal modulation speed to hear gorgeous drones unfold. Use slow LFOs, smooth fluctuating random or envelopes in order to shift through different tones slowly.
