SCHiLLiNG Last Future
Apparel Music
Milan-born London based sound designer and producer Ludovico Schilling releases a highly impressive debut on Apparel Music with Last Future.
His vast experience at sculpting sounds for exhibitions, installations and events is evident as the record quickly settles into the expansive soundscape of striking sound design and intricately constructed arrangements that define the entire album. At times it has a sparse feel to it, with each sound given room and the opportunity to reflect and echo off one another; whilst at others it is a frenzied and rhythmical assault on the senses.
There is a ’90s Trip-Hop feel to a lot of the drums on the record, adding power and resonance to even the most downbeat excursions. UK bass culture has had a distinct influence on the LP, manifesting itself amongst the deep swathes of bass, reverb and heavily processed glitch touches that remain almost omnipresent throughout. Such is Schilling’s skill that he is able to add a human musicality through his ability to play and program such a wide range of instruments in this stellar debut.
