Acid Pauli BLD Ouïe
Following on from his 2012 debut album on Nicolas Jaar’s Clown and Sunset imprint, ex-Bar 25 resident Acid Pauli returns with his highly innovative sophomore album.
BLD arose from the idea of making a set comprised of only House and Techno breaks, leaving out the typical driving beat and 4/4s. This idea turned into a full-length album and sees Acid Pauli exploring an expansive soundscape in a distinctive way. Over eight diverse tracks the German producer challenges the conventions of traditional club music with unusual structures and abstract textures.
Wildly unique and beautifully constructed,
BLD traverses varying moods, tempos and emotions. From synth-laden ambience to sinister tones, psychedelic dreams and dynamic experimentalism, the record retains a heady intensity throughout. At times melancholic, while at others bold and expressive, BLD is the work of an artist prepared to stretch himself in the pursuit of freedom, innovation and creativity. It’s fitting that a record that is built around creating suspense leaves us simply waiting to see what Acid Pauli will do next. Tom Jones ADD THESE TO YOUR PLAYLIST: Baris, Majid, Jorge| 8/10
