Mick Gordon’s Doom soundtrack
It’s always good to take inspiration from other artists and composers, and among those currently processing electronic sounds with amp simulation (among myriad other effects) is composer Mick Gordon, the man tasked with re-composing the soundtrack for the reboot of the Doom franchise. Gordon took a comprehensive approach to reimagining the original game’s soundtrack (a MIDI-only score, from the days when computer game soundtracks were squeezed onto just a few bytes of data) as well as composing new tracks. The two films entitled Doom: Behind The Music ( bit.ly/MGDoom) offer a great insight into the approach Mick took to producing and mixing this score and, as you’ll hear, on both the guitar and synth parts he wrote, re-amping plays a major role. Even if the soundtrack isn’t to your taste, there are some extraordinary sounds here to set your imagination alight.
