The press release describes you as ‘painting outside the lines’ on this album, which is a great way of describing it. Is it more than just a case of switching off the quantise?

“Totally… I think of my last couple of records that were made in proper studios and they were like very realistic portraits while these new songs are like rough sketches. Quick and raw but with a spontaneous vibe that happens when you approach things like that. If you over-edit sometimes you can steal the life out of an idea.”
