What are the alternatives to a new MacBook Pro?
While the MacBook Pro is the go-to laptop for many artists, it’s not the right machine for everyone. The new models are certainly powerful, but they’re also expensive – particularly if you get a higher-spec model – and it might simply be the case that you can’t afford to buy one or justify the cost. If you’re looking for something cheaper, you might be tempted to consider the standard MacBook or MacBook Air but, given that these machines haven’t been updated for a while, they’re not particularly appealing in their current forms.
At least choosing a MacBook Pro is easy, though – while there are many more options in Windows land, selecting the right one can be incredibly difficult. If you’re looking for a Windows-powered MacBook Pro equivalent, several options do spring to mind, though, starting with the Huawei MateBook X Pro. Even its name seems to have been chosen to
draw comparisons with Apple’s flagship laptop, and it has the look of one as well. However, it’s considerably cheaper, and doesn’t fall short in the power stakes.
Another highly-regarded machine is the Dell XPS 13. This has been around for a while in various forms, and the 2018 model is another winner, boasting a great design and excellent performance. You can choose your colour option and specs, too.
You might also consider one of Microsoft’s Surface machines – the Surface Pro and Surface Book are standout performers here.
