COMMUNITY NEWS By Kylie McGhie INVICTUS PIE FUNDRAISING TARGET$20,000 OF Very exciting times at 1st Dural Scouts Group!!! We are counting down to AJ2019. In January, 10 of our Scouts are heading to the 2019 Australian Jamboree in Tailem Bend, South Australia. It will be 2 weeks of jam-packed adventure and fun! The Scouts have been very busy throughout the year fundraising to assist with the fees, you may have seen them at Bunnings Bbqs, washing cars, selling Fire Pits or pushing trolleys at Glenorie Woolworths. We thank everyone for their continuing support! All the camp gear was packed in early November and sent on its way in shipping containers to the camp site, ready for our troops arrival. We wish them all the best and look forward to hearing all about their adventures. 1st Dural Scout Group would like to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! All meetings resume on the second week of term in February 2019. REACHED! By Christine Gillies Glenorie Bakery is proud to announce that we have reached our Invictus Games fundraising target of $20,000!!! W e started with a goal of $10,000, then raised the bar to $20,000. By the time of the closing ceremony on 27th October we got to $17,000 but decided to continue on with our fundraising to ensure we would reach our target! Last week we achieved our goal and on November 15th 2018, Rob Pirina from Glenorie Bakery had the honour of handing over our $20,000 cheque to Patrick Kidd (CEO of the Invictus Games Sydney 2018 and Major General Fergus (Gus) McLachlan, AO (Australian Forces Commander). Throughout our fundraising journey we have had the opportunity to host a local community event ‘The Invictus Pie Festival’ including guests such as Patrick Kidd (CEO of Invictus), Cobber the official mascot, our local school principal, mayor and politicians. Rob also had the opportunity of presenting the Invictus Games Australian team athletes with a personal taste of our Invictus Pies at the Academy of Sport and Recreation Centre, and was asked to represent the Honourable Dominic Perrottet MP (Treasurer, Minister for Industrial Relations, Member for Hawkesbury) at the official UK Invictus Team Welcome Reception held by The British High Commissioner, Her Excellency Mrs Menna Rawlings CMG. It has been quite a journey and we would like to thank our local community, customers and the media for helping us reach our target of $20,000 for our unconquerable Australian Invictus Games Athletes.
