Pitstop for passers-by

-

I thought you might like to see a photo of my verge garden. Everything is growing in semi-composted woodchip. It happened by accident. I had a pile just sitting there, rotting away, so I decided to make use of it. I planted a solitary watermelon vine and it produced over 20 delicious fruit. Best thing is, once it got going, I never had to water – and it faces west. What a result! Since then, I have added vegies, herbs and flowers. This is my happy place, and because it’s out on the street, I get to share the joy with my neighbours.

The kids love it too, especially at harvest time. I’ve had another delivery of tree loppers’ woodchips and I plan to extend my vegie patch. My life is overflowing and this low-maintenance style of gardening makes growing my own food a reality.
