Check for borers
Monitor native trees regularly for tree borer, particularly eucalypts, acacias and melaleucas. Look for tell-tale signs such as pinholes and sawdust on the trunk and branches. Poking a piece of wire deep into the holes is all that’s required to kill the pest. If a branch shows signs of dieback due to severe infestation, consider removing all of the affected material, cutting back to a point where the wood is sound and healthy. If you have a large tree in need of attention, call in a arborist. For more on borers, turn to p77 for ‘Grubs anyone?’
