Tidy up canna lilies

-

After months of producing gorgeous flowers, canna lilies start to die back in late autumn, so it’s a good time to cut them back and set them up for next season’s performance. Cut spent stems down to ground level, but leave any young shoots, as they will be the first to flower next season. Lift and divide the clumps if they are getting crowded. Mulch around plants with compost and straw, and fertilise in late winter, just before they are ready to start growing again.
