VARIETIES

Classic mixed and heirloom varieties are trending in the sweet pea popularity stakes, but there are also beautiful single colours available. Whichever variety takes your fancy, the heady, nostalgic scent will transport you!

OLD FASHIONED & HEIRLOOM

Heavenly Scented Mix Old favourite, strongly scented varieties, including white Dorothy Eckford, pinky-mauve Flora Norton, striped Spencer Ripple and navy blue Lord Nelson.

‘Old Fashioned’ Tall grower with large, ruffled blooms in mixed colours. Headily perfumed. Flowers late in the season.

‘Matucana’ Highly scented heirloom variety with striking violet and deep crimson flowers. Long blooming period.

‘Colourcade’ Popular garden variety that flowers in early spring. Large, lightly frilled blooms on long stems in a mostly pastel colour mix as well as a gorgeous maroon.

‘Cupani’ These smaller flowers have deep blue petals with a purple wing and shorter stems. Blooms produce a strong fragrance. Good heat tolerance. Reliably self seeds.

HAMMETT

Bred in New Zealand by renowned plant breeder Dr Keith Hammett, these varieties combine large, ruffled blooms, high fragrance and rich colours.

‘High Scent’ Romantic, creamy flowers edged with soft pinky-mauve. This favourite is a strong, vigorous grower. It can be sown in autumn for spring flowering and in early spring for summer cut-and-come-again blooms.

‘Original Species’ Richly coloured cerise and purple flowers with strong fragrance. Reminiscen­t of one of the first cultivated sweet peas.

‘Patricia Ann’ Mixed pastels with finely rippled veins of colour running through each petal, which create a patterned effect. Scented.

DWARF & COMPACT

‘Bijou’ Semi-dwarf variety suited for pots and borders. Mixed colours and sweet scent. Grows to 45cm.

‘Explorer Mixed’ Compact with large, brightly coloured flowers. Ideal for pots, baskets and window boxes. Medium-length stems. Grows to 30cm.
