PLACEMENT PRIORITIES FOR SEATING

-

Above all else, first consider protection from wind.

Next, consider the direction of the sun. At its most basic, you want sun in the morning and shade in the afternoon, although it’s best if you can manage the options to provide both at any time of the day.

Only then can you consider what’s to be seen from the seating. No matter how amazing the view, you won’t sit there if it isn’t protected and cosy.

Think about whether you’re likely to dine in this spot, have a drink in this spot, or just sit and gaze from this spot, then furnish accordingly.

Consider the role of this furniture as both a focal point and a destination. Is the seating more about being part of the view, or about providing a place from which to take in the view? Both are valid!
