PORTABLE CCTV cameras are rolling in Drysdale following a lengthy battle to see security in the Bellarine Peninsula town increased.
A cash injection from the City of Greater Geelong will see the cameras erected on the Bellarine Peninsula for six months while locals continue to push for federal funding to see the crime-fighting technology permanently installed.
Drysdale Clifton Springs Neighbourhood Watch coordinator Leanne Stratford said crime was a major concern to Bellarine residents and they hoped the cameras would help ward off would-be thieves while catching those continuing to target their community.
“We’ve got no news on the federal front and State Government have knocked us back so this is a great temporary move,” she said.
It’ll make residents feel a lot safer and protect areas around us as people stealing boats and cars and things from across St Leonards and Portarlington come back through this way.”

“It’s going to aid the entrance to the Bellarine.”
Council acting general manager for city services Vicki Shelton said installation and operation costs over the sixmonth period would be $3000.
