Rihanna to get lifetime award
RIHANNA is set to receive MTV’s highest honour at the star-studded Video Music Awards in New York today.
The Barbadian singer, 28, will be presented with the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award, MTV’s equivalent of a lifetime achievement honour.
Kanye West, Beyonce, Justin Timberlake and Britney Spears are past recipients.
Rihanna, the youngest solo artist in US chart history to score 14 No.1 singles, will open the VMAs with a medley of her biggest hits.
Adele, with eight nominations, will contest the top awards with Beyonce, who has 11.
Adele is up for video of the year for hit single Hello, while Beyonce has been nominated for Formation.
They will compete against Drake’s Hotline Bling, Justin Bieber’s Sorry and West’s controversial Famous.
