Stan brings up ton, and he’s not slowing down

-

THERE is no secret to living a long life, according to 100year-old Stanley Jasper.

Celebrating a century of living last Friday, Mr Jasper was surrounded by his friends at Roccoco Aged Care.

When asked his secret, Mr Jasper said he didn’t really have one.

“I’m not too sure. We used to walk to school every day, that was probably what did it,” Mr Jasper said.

One of 12 children born and raised on a wheat farm in Echuca, Mr Jasper stayed working the farm and raised a family with wife Joan.

He said he had fond memories of chasing rabbits and foxes with his children George and Mary, getting two shillings for rabbit skins and one pound for fox skins.

Mr Jasper spoke happily of life on the farm, holding on to the pictures of the draught horses that they used in the harvest.

“We had eight of them, they went faster than a tractor and you’d still have your hearing at the end of the day,” Mr Jasper said.

Age has not slowed him down as he still takes part in art activities and bowls with the others at the aged care centre — he even won a medal in the Roccoco Olympics. His one wish for the future is to continue painting in the art group for a book he is creating.
