Tigers to stick to their script
BANNOCKBURN will enter its first senior grand final since 2006 after a commanding 43-point win over country rival Inverleigh.
The Tigers, primed after their week off, capitalised on their fresh legs in a dominant second-quarter display that set up the impressive win.
Co-coaches Darren Milburn and Peter Riccardi remained composed postmatch and neither are a stranger to grand final day after a collective six between them at Geelong.
“Obviously he got to the ultimate as a player but wasn’t able to get that medal,” Milburn said of Riccardi.
“What we’ve strived to do so far has proven to work, so we don’t want to go away from that and I know for a fact that Peter won’t want to put himself in front of everyone else.
“He’ll just go about his business making sure we continue what we’ve been doing.”
Bannockburn appeared to tick all the boxes on Saturday after holding its opposition to a combined 2.7 (19) when the Hawks were kicking with the breeze.
Jake Peters found three goals in the second quarter alone while ruckman Kieran Fulton finished strongly after he was absent in the third quarter with cramp.
“We’ve just crossed another hurdle, we were in pretty good form going in and we started well, which was the important thing,” Milburn said.
“Some of our starts haven’t been that great over this year so it was good to start well and I thought in our second, third and fourth quarters we were able to just grind it out.”
Chris Rieck was named as the Tigers’ best alongside Matt Tyquin, who starred throughout the afternoon in
