LaCaze snares national record

-

GENEVIEVE LaCaze has carried her Olympic form into the Paris Diamond League meet, smashing the Australian record in the fastest women’s 3000m steeplechase yet.

Kenyan-born Olympic champion Ruth Jebet, from Bahrain, stripped more than six seconds from the world record with a winning time of 8min 52.78sec.

LaCaze took advantage of the cracking pace to finish sixth in 9:14.28.

The 27-year-old was more than four seconds inside the previous national mark of 9:18.35, set by Donna MacFarlane in 2008, as she recorded her 15th personal best time of the year.

Rising star Ella Nelson was fifth in the 200m in 22.82.
