Police nab speeding motorbike

- ERIN PEARSON

A BELL PARK man has lost his prized Kawasaki motorbike after police clocked him riding at more than 156km/h on one of the region’s busiest roads.

Sergeant Dean Parrello said the 20-year-old was heading east on the Bellarine Highway at Wallington when he attracted police attention before being seen running a red light yesterday morning.

Sgt Parrello said it came as local police were ramping up their visible presence across the AFL Grand Final long weekend with Operation Scoreboard running until Sunday night

“He was a learner and his reason was he was running late for work. His bike was impounded at the scene,” Sgt Parrello said.

“It’s one of the highest speeds I’ve seen on that stretch of road and it’s especially a concern with the way the road toll is going with motorcyclists at the moment.

“What’s also concerning is the man had a bald rear tyre as well.”

The man’s motorbike was towed at a cost to him of $1038.

He is expected to be charged on summons with driving at a speed dangerous, exceeding the speed limit and running a red light.
