Speedster a ‘good each-way chance’

-

GEELONG trainer Vin Malady is confident he has found the right city race for Tigidig Tigidig.

The six-year-old speedster has gained a run in the $40,000 Kurts and Barn 40th Birthday Plate (1200m) at Caulfield today and Malady believes his galloper is a good each-way chance.

“I wasn’t overly keen on the benchmark 70 but it’s probably looking in general an easier race to run in. I wanted to get him back on the grass, but with the rain around there has been heavy tracks.

“The way it’s turned out he has a good pull in the weights, coming in with 53kg. He’s got a good barrier and his favourite distance.

“He is working really well. We are happy with how he is going.

“At the end of the day he is probably a good each-way chance at odds,” he said.

Rising apprentice Beau Mertens will ride Tigidig Tigidig from barrier five.

“We just want him ridden where he is happy. He will tow him into the forward half of the field and the rest is up to him (Beau),” Malady said.

“If he rides him where he is happy then he is going to give him a chance to hit the line.”

Tigidig Tigidig hasn’t been at his consistent best this sea- son, but Malady was hopeful that would change after a few trips to the beach.

“His form probably this prep hasn’t been as good as his last on paper. He seems good leading into it,” Malady said.

“He’s been to the beach. He hadn’t been there previously this prep, so hopefully that can turn his form around a little bit.”

MEANWHILE, Walled City is likely to head to Bairns- dale tomorrow, with Malady keen to get the galloper out to 1600m.

Part-owned by Geelong small forward Steven Motlop, Walled City has his hoof on the till.

“He is crying out for 1600m and I just haven’t been able to find a dry track over 1600m for him,” Malady said.

“I’d expect him to run well and Jamie Mott is riding him, which is a bonus.”
