Rudd’s romantic day, dogs and all

-

SINGER songwriter Xavier Rudd has married partner Ashley Freeman — a well-known holistic personal trainer — in an intimate Byron Bay ceremony.

Rudd, 38, arrived at the ceremony by boat, accompanied by his sons, Joaquin and Finojet, and two dogs.

The nuptials, which took place just days before Christmas, kicked off with a traditional “Welcome to country” ceremony.

The groomsmen, dressed in navy suits, stood with their dad on the banks of the river.

Ashley, who wore a fitted lace dress with circular cutout at the back and fresh flowers in her hair, was followed down the aisle by the couple’s dogs.

At the reception Rudd surprised his new wife by riding on to the dancefloor on his motorcycle before dancing towards her to remove the garter.

The couple got engaged at the Grand Canyon on a trip to the US 18 months ago.

Just eight weeks before the big day the laid-back bride-to-be took to Instagram to tell her 161,000 followers that she was still without a photographer, makeup artist and wedding dress.

“True to form there’s a few last minute details to address . . . #ilivemylifetothelastminute.”

It was a big year for Ashley, who started two new businesses: Sol Fit Byron Bay, an outdoor group fitness and personal training service, and Spirit Bird Collective, an Australian-made yoga wear brand.

It’s the second marriage for Rudd, who had a decade-long relationship with the mother of his children, Canadian artist Marci Lutken, before it ended in 2009.
