Leishman focuses on the finish

-

IN-FORM Australian golfer Marc Leishman has pinpointed lacklustre finalround performances as the hurdle he needs to jump if he is to bag a second career US PGA Tour victory.

Leishman, from Warrnambool, is hoping his first win since the 2012 Travelers Championship comes at this week’s Honda Classic at Palm Beach, Florida. Compatriot Adam Scott will tee off at PGA National’s Champions course as defending champion.

Before missing the cut at last week’s Genesis Open in Los Angeles, Leishman hadn’t finished outside the top 25 in his five events for 2017, including two top-10 results.

With chances to win at the Sony Open in Hawaii, the Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines and the Phoenix Open, Leishman ranks 72nd on the US PGA Tour for finalround scoring average.

“The first three rounds of each event, I’d give myself a nine out of 10 and Sundays about a five,” said Leishman.

“It’s disappointing, the way I’ve been finishing off tournaments, but I’m glad to have chances to win as there weren’t too many last year.

Leishman feels his driving accuracy is suited to the narrow fairways and thick rough at PGA National.
