Falcons maintain their focus

- RYAN REYNOLDS TAC CUP

GEELONG Falcons coach Danny O’Keefe is having no problems controlling excitement among his young team despite its stunning start to the season.

The Falcons sit on top of the TAC Cup ladder undefeated under four rounds, while also boasting the most points for and least points against.

O’Keefe said his players had kept very level heads ahead of their clash with a 3-1 Oakleigh Chargers at Warrawee Park tomorrow.

“It is exciting, we talk about that. But I don’t think we’ve talked about it in regards to that we are going really well,” O’Keefe said.

“We have spoken about the four wins we have had individually and how they differ from each other and how we have learned different things from each win.

“It’s less about ‘yes, we are going well and are on top of the ladder’, it’s more about how we continue to keep that and keep getting better and better.

“Because if we don’t then we won’t be on top for much longer.”

The Falcons’ stunning form has been built on the back of some tremendous second-half football, with their third quarters a particular highlight.

O’Keefe said fitness played a part in helping them dominate after the main break, but admitted the challenge was to get that style of play featuring earlier in each match.

“Our first halves have let our competition be in front or close to us. So that’s something we need to rectify and put our second-half ability into the first half,” O’Keefe said.

“We had that discussion (what makes us a good third quarter team) and it was an interesting one. You can put it down to fitness because we are the fittest going by the data.

“You can put it down to a mindset that when we switch on and play after half time then we know what we can do if we follow our structures.

“Maybe it’s a bit of both. We can’t pinpoint it.”
