- BETHANY TYLER

GEELONG music lovers have unknowingly crowned Drake as their favourite artist.

Celebrating Spotify’s fifth birthday, the music app released an area breakdown of Australians’ listeningg habits, showingg Drake’s 2016 hit One Dance is Geelong’s most streamed song of all time.

For Geelong, only three female musicians made the list — Sia, Lorde and Rihanna appeared across Most Streamed Artist and Most Streamed Album categories.

Dance, pop, indie folk, alternative rock, folk pop and pop-rap were among the top streamed genres, along with some more obscure genres such as “Metropopolis” and “R-neg-b”.

The data also revealed locals are a bunch of not so secret Beliebers, with three of Justin Bieber’s tracks making the top 10 streamed list with Where Are Ü Now, Love Yourself and Sorry. The remaining most streamed artists for the region were Ed Sheeran, Flume, Coldplay, Eminem, Kanye West, Calvin Harris, Rihanna and Sia.

It was fairly in line with the country’s listening habits, which included other mainstream artists such as The Chainsmokers and The Weeknd.

The album charts were also dominated by the likes of Lorde, Arctic Monkeys, The Weeknd and Chet Faker.

Geelong’s most listened to tracks on Spotify included Mark Ronson’s

Uptown Funk, Alan Walker’s Faded and Flume’s Never be Like You.

“It’s exciting to look at how far we’ve come and all we’ve achieved in five years,” said Spotify artist and label services manager Tom Mee.

“We’re particularly proud of the positive impact Spotify has had on the local music industry; driving significant revenues back to the industry, and helping to export more Aussie music to the world than ever before ... a huge win for artists and music fans alike.”
