Community bid to help grieving family

- — BETHANY TYLER

THE family of a Queenscliff boy who died after a longrunning illness are trying to raise money for his funeral.

Eight-year-old Caden Pont died on Sunday night from a major asthma attack, triggered by a disease that has seen him spend much of his young life in and out of hospitals.

A police source said the boy, who was a twin, had suffered from chromosome duplication syndrome, which caused “asthma-like symptoms”.

The illness brought on such episodes as vicious colds, respiratory and cardiac problems and seizures, while his twin brother experienced no symptoms.

A crowd-funding page has been set up to raise $10,000 for Caden’s family to give the Queenscliff Primary School student a “send-off fitting a superhero”.

By yesterday afternoon it had raised close to $900 for the “bright and bubbly” boy’s funeral.

“May your little body rest in peace with the other angels, sweetheart,” one person wrote on the page.

“Fly high super hero . . . you put up such a brave fight,” another posted.

His mum, Casey Warne, took to social media after her son’s death to ask friends and family to light a candle in his honour. For more information on the campaign visit the Mycause page at mycause.com.au/ page/151428/a-superherossend-off-for-caden
