Wilson in tears on last day of evidence

- SHANNON DEERY

REBEL Wilson has broken down in court, saying she was the victim of relentless bullying and intimidation while slamming claims she was a serial liar as “absolute bulls---”.

Wilson, in her seventh day in the witness box in her Victorian Supreme Court libel trial against Bauer Media, hit out at the media giant, saying it had continued to bully and harass her before the trial. “They’re so slimy,” she said. She claims a series of articles published in May 2015 destroyed her career.

Wilson broke down during questioning yesterday morning after being asked how she felt following three days of cross-examination by Georgina Schoff, QC, for Bauer.

“They know I’m not a liar . . . it’s shameful,” she said. “I can’t believe they sit here and try and fight this case, and fight me. They bully and intimidate me. I can’t describe how hurtful it is. I can’t put it into exact words. They know I haven’t made up stories, they know I’m an authentic, candid person.

“That’s why I’m popular in America. I didn’t have to invent anything. They know everything I say is truthful. The fact they sit here and try and sling mud at me to try and further intimidate me just makes me so upset.”

Wilson broke down after being asked about the first of eight articles published by Bauer at the centre of the trial.

The court has heard a classmate of the actor was the anonymous source of the Woman’s Day article.

“They know this article is absolute rubbish, excuse my language, is absolute bulls--- . . . this has been an exercise in trying to sling mud at me,’’ she said. “I’ve had to come here and prove my life story ... everyone knows (it) is true. I just don’t know why people would do this.”

Wilson has finished her evidence but the hearing, before Justice John Dixon, continues.
