Hamilton never ceases take your breath away

- Surfing with ROBBO sport@geelongadvertiser.com.au Four-day surf forecast:

BETHANY Hamilton is my favourite surfer.

She never ceases to amaze me about just how great a surfer she is and again this week she has put on an awesome performance in Fiji, defeating the current world champion in Round 1.

Tyler Wright turned the tables on Hamilton in Round 4, but Hamilton’s surfing at Cloudbreak was amazing.

Competing at the sport’s highest level and winning against the reigning world champion is a super performance given her circumstances and I’d love to see Hamilton surfing more of the major events throughout the year.

Tyler Wright and Sally Fitzgibbons ended up equal thirdplaced surfers at the event, going down to US pair Tatiana Weston-Webb and Courtney Conlogue.

The final between the two is most likely to happen at the weekend with small swells in Fiji for the coming few days.

While it’s been small but good quality in Fiji for the women’s event, the good news is that it doesn’t stay small in Fiji for long and with the men’s Fiji event set to start early next week there’s certain to be great swells for them.

The waves at Fiji can be amazing and when it’s on it’s one of the true classic events on the world tour — from my perspective, not to be missed as far as watching on the live broadcast.

Watching Medina, Slater, Florence and Parkinson surf 3m Cloudbreak is about as good as it gets for a surfing spectacle.

Clean early winter wind every day and fun, clean waves on the reefs and beach breaks every day. Nothing big but plenty of clean waves with offshore winds all day everyday. Good winter conditions.
