Tiler caught twice with drugs at home

- GREG DUNDAS

A NORLANE drug trafficker was jailed for eight months yesterday after being caught dealing for a second and then a third time.

Geelong police raided Stan Jovanovic’s home last October and again in April, finding an assortment of illegal and prescription drugs, weapons, stolen identity documents and computers.

The first raid found 10.9g of the drug ice — more than triple the trafficable quantity — and he was on bail when police visited the next time, finding even more methylamphetamine (12.9g).

Magistrate Michael Coghlan was also told GHB and ecstasy were found in both raids, while the weapons included two extendible batons, knuckledusters and a slingshot.

“I am mainly concerned about your involvement with the drug ice,” Mr Coghlan said. “(It’s an) insidious drug. “Meth we read about in the paper and we see on the news every day the harm it has done to the community.”

The court heard Jovanovic, a 33-year-old floor tiler, lived with his parents in Norlane, and was convicted of similar offending in 2014, being given a community corrections order and completing 200 hours of unpaid community work.

His lawyer, Sarah Pratt, suggested a corrections order would again be an appropriate sentence, saying her client “responds to structure”, and had been rated “low-tomedium risk” of reoffending.

“I have concern about the suggestion he’s a low risk of reoffending,” Mr Coghlan said.

“The court has already given you two opportunities to address your drug problems.”

Jovanovic pleaded guilty to drugs, weapons and stolen property charges, and breaching bail.

Mr Coghlan said he viewed the eight-month jail term he imposed on the defendant as “relatively short”, but conceded the man might not agree.

“I’m not going to impose a crushing sentence,” he said.

With 55 days already served in custody, Jovanovic has about six months remaining on his sentence and was also ordered to pay $1500 of fines. also
