Tiger found asleep in his damged Merc

-

POLICE have released dashcam footage and audio of the moment they approached Tiger Woods unconscious at the wheel of his idling luxury Mercedes.

And new images show the extent of recent damage to the vehicle, which would’ve rendered it almost inoperable.

The professional golfer, 41, was arrested just after 2am on suspicion of driving under the influence after he was found slumped in his car near his home in Jupiter, Florida.

When he was woken by officers, Woods told them he was returning from California — on the other side of the United States.

Authorities released a recording of the first responding officer approaching the car, which was found obstructing a lane on a deserted stretch of road.

They also released footage of the incident and of Woods struggling as he undertook field sobriety tests.

Police also made public photographs of the significantly damaged $300,000 Mercedes, which had two flat tires, damage to the rims on the driver’s side and scrapes on the front and rear.

They believe the damage was fresh, raising questions about the time leading up to Woods’ arrest.

Official reports state that Woods slurred his words and didn’t under- stand requests being made of him. He also seemed unaware where he was.

While a breath test returned a zero reading, an affidavit stated that he failed four field sobriety tests and was on four prescription drugs, including Vicodin. Woods has apologised for his driving under the influence arrest, insisting that alcohol was not involved in the late-night incident.

“What happened was an unexpected reaction to prescribed medica- tions. I didn’t realise the mix of medications had affected me so strongly,” he said in a statement.

“I would like to apologise with all my heart to my family, friends and the fans. I expect more from myself too.”
