Vixens have that winning feeling

- DAMIEN RACTLIFFE

MELBOURNE Vixens premiership player Tegan Philip says her side has built a similar chemistry to what it established in 2014.

The Vixens have claimed the Super Netball minor premiership and will play second-placed Sunshine Coast Lightning in a double-chance home final tomorrow afternoon, with the winner straight through to the grand final.

“I think that we’re in a really good position and similar to 2014, how we did finish that year with the premiership,” the local product said.

“There is the possibility of that this year and I think we believe we can do it, but most of all we just know we need to play well, and really well.

“I think everyone’s really enjoying their year this year and we’ve made a big effort creating an environment where everyone feels equal, has even responsibility and has their own part to play within a team environment — both oncourt and off-court.

“I think being able to do that, everyone’s enjoying it. We’re playing well but having a good relationship with each other allows us to go out and play well, connect well, communicate well, and I think that’s why we’re playing well this season.”

A former Anglesea junior, Philip missed all of last season with a knee injury but said the year of pain had been healed by a successful return.

“I’m absolutely loving being back out on court, playing with these bunch of girls and obviously being as successful as we are and not having any issues with my knee at all,” she said. “It’s like it didn’t even happen — absolutely stoked with how things have gone.”
