Battered Gibbs not serious, but will miss

-

QUEENSCLIFF ball magnet Daniel Gibbs has been cleared of any long-term damage after a sickening collision in Saturday’s win over Torquay.

But the prime mover has been ruled out of the Coutas’ clash against Modewarre after a case of friendly fire left him heavily concussed.

“He ended up walking off the ground but he was in a pretty bad way,” Queenscliff co-coach Jono Casey said.

“The trainers looked after him and we had a 10-minute stop in play. We called the ambulance and they took him to hospital, he got some scans, got the all-clear and headed home on Saturday night.

“There were no facial fractures, he got the all-clear, but he’ll miss this week.”

Casey said Gibbs and youngster Caleb Whitley col- lided in the third-quarter, with Gibbs coming off second best.

“They both had eyes for the footy and it was literally a head collision,” he said.

“Caleb was dazed as well, but he just sustained a cut under his eye and some swelling,” he said.

“They were both trying to get back and help out the defence and it was a bit scary.”

Casey said Whitley would play against the Warriors on Saturday.

“We just have to make sure he gets the OK from the doctors, but everyone else got through well and we had a few return,” he said.

“Rory Fairbairn got back from injury and was fantastic. He’s only played a couple of halves for us this year and he got through and there’s no other injury concerns.”
