Winchelsea land sale for ambo station

-

LAND has been set aside to enable authorities to build an ambulance station in Winchelsea.

Surf Coast Shire is prepared to sell vacant council land at 42 Harding St to enable the establishment of the town’s first ambulance station.

Ambulance Victoria reached out to the council and asked for assistance ear- lier this year after Winchelsea was identified as an area of high need for emergency services.

The proposed sale of land has been put out for public comment.

“We’re delighted that action has been taken that will hopefully see this vital infrastructure delivered,” Cr Carol McGregor said.

“We are interested to hear the community’s views about this site and council’s intention to sell the land to Ambulance Victoria.”

The former Shire of Winchelsea bought the land in 1988 from the Church of England.

At that time, it was considered a potential site to develop affordable housing for the elderly and a senior citizens’ centre. Both services are located elsewhere. The property remains undeveloped with no future use identified, making it surplus to council’s needs.

The agreed sale price will be based on current market valuations.

Public submissions are invited on the proposal to sell the land and a hearing of submissions meeting will be held if necessary.
