Lewis up there as the best

A THREE-time premiership player, Whitley medallist and senior best and fairest.

Numerous interleague appearances and 206 quality games. Shaun Lewis has done it all. And the former Bell Post Hill champion could well be the greatest player to have pulled on a red and blue jumper, according to a man who helped select the Panthers Team of 40 Years.

“Shaun Lewis’s record stacks up as good as anyone else,” Bell Post Hill stalwart Mark Brady said.

“His record is sensational. There’s some fantastic names. The best player I played with was David Wall. He was an absolute star and there’s been some rippers go through the club.

“To pin one down ... Russell Mitchell, pound for pound, was the best player to play at Bell Post Hill, Cam Addie is a jet and Shaun Lewis was as good as anyone. He’d have a fair claim to say he’s the best player that Bell Post Hill’s ever had.”

Brady was among a sevenmember panel that took months to compile the Panthers’ best team of the past four decades, joining Barry Reid, Sam Faulkner, Michael Battye, Greg Brough, Graham Lewis and Vicki Barrett.

“It’s an amazing Brady said.

“There was seven of us trying to pick it and geez, it was tough.

“We had a minimum criteria of 80 senior games and that gave us a list of about 45.”

Cam Addie was named captain, with Brady declaring he was an obvious choice.

“I don’t think it was that hard at all,” Brady said.

“It was unanimous. You’ve side,”
