Goldsack, Reid back to aid Pies

-

COLLINGWOOD has been boosted by the return from injury of premiership-winning pair Ben Reid and Tyson Goldsack for tomorrow’s clash with Port Adelaide at the MCG.

The Magpies are 13th with a 5-7 record going into the clash against the fourth-placed Power and desperately need a win to stay in touch with the top eight. Reid injured a quad muscle in Round 8 and Goldsack suffered a shoulder injury in his side’s gutsy Round 11 win over Fremantle.

The experienced duo replace Matt Scharenberg and Josh Smith, who have been dropped, while Port has recalled Jasper Pittard for Jared Polec (hamstring).

In other key AFL selection moves, Melbourne’s Max Gawn, Geelong’s Tom Hawkins, North Melbourne’s Majak Daw and Fremantle’s Hayden Ballantyne have been named.

Gawn’s return from a longterm hamstring injury was tempered by the losses of Nathan Jones (quad) and Jack Watts, who suffered a hamstring injury in last week’s win over the Western Bulldogs.

The Demons also named Billy Stretch for tomorrow’s encounter with West Coast at Domain Stadium.

The Eagles lost Mark LeCras to a hip injury and Jackson Nelson to a hamstring issue, with Josh Hill and Malcolm Karpany coming in.

Daw was named in the Roos’ line-up to face the Bulldogs tomorrow night at Etihad Stadium, along with former skipper Andrew Swallow and Jamie Macmillan. Kayne Turner (knee), Lachlan Hansen (omitted) and Jed Anderson (omitted) depart the side beaten by St Kilda.

The Dogs copped an injury blow with Tom Boyd out with a calf complaint, while Lin Jong suffered a season-ending knee injury in the loss to Melbourne. Tom Campbell and Jack Redpath are the inclusions.

It was announced Bulldogs recruit Travis Cloke will take an indefinite break from the AFL to deal with unspecified mental health issues.

Essendon lost Cale Hooker to a finger injury and dropped David Myers for their clash with Sydney tonight at the SCG.

Shaun McKernan and Kyle Langford replace the pair, while the Swans have brought in Oliver Florent and Lewis Melican.

Brisbane hosts Greater Western Sydney in tomorrow’s remaining game. Giants defender Nick Haynes returns from a long-term hamstring injury in what will be Heath Shaw’s 250th AFL match.

Richmond has added Ben Lennon, Oleg Markov and Ivan Maric to their 25-man squad for Sunday’s clash with Carlton at the MCG.
