The girls really lifted but hats off to Melbourne Uni, they’re obviously a quality side and used the ball a bit better than us and ran out comfortable winners.
“It got back to 12 points and I think we went forward with our next entry too, but sometimes when you’re chasing you leave yourself a little bit exposed to being scored against and Melbourne Uni took full advantage.
“But we don’t shy away from the fact we were right in the game against a quality BELL Park has strengthened its bowling depth, signing former Marshall coach Ben Spencer.
Spencer, a veteran of more than 100 matches at East Belmont before shifting to the Bears last season, reinforces the Dragons’ bowling attack.
His arrival adds another potential matchwinner to the club’s balanced first XI side, which went unbeaten through the 2016-17 GCA2 home-andaway season before bowing out of finals in straight sets.
Spencer’s links to the Dragons come through coach Michael Lymer, with the pair having established mutual respect during their playing days at division one level.
In 2014-15, Spencer took 45 wickets at an average of 12.28 for East Belmont’s first XI and has also represented Geelong at country week level, providing extra experience for the young Dragons.
Bell Park has spent the offseason adding depth to its turf squad, also signing Damien Priddle and Anthony Close.
