Supercats are ready to pounce

- DAMIEN RACTLIFFE

STAND in co-captain Isabella Brancatisano says the Lady Supercats are chasing down top spot on the SEABL table.

The Geelong team has amassed nine straight wins to sit second on the East conference table; two wins off Kilsyth with a game in hand.

The challenges keep coming with a double header in Tasmania this weekend, but Brancatisano said her side enjoyed travelling on the road.

“Yeah we love it; it’s fun, we get to hang out,” she said.

“This weekend is going to be massive though; we’ve got two tough games, so as well as being fun, it’s going to be a challenge.”

A foot injury has interrupted Brancatisano’s campaign, but she’s been asked to lead the side, along with Ebony Rolph, in the absence of star trio Sara Blicavs, Alex Bunton and Alex Duck. The 22-yearold said the side’s second tier players were relishing the extra responsibility.

“It’s been giving us players that don’t play as much when those three are here more of an opportunity to prove ourselves as well and get a bit of a rhythm going,” she said.

“When he (coach David Herbert) does call upon us, we’re ready to go as well.

“Nine wins straight is very exciting, especially with girls coming and going all the time so yeah, we’re on track.”

But Brancatisano said her side wouldn’t get carried away.

“We’re just taking each game as it comes at the moment; obviously we’ve got high hopes for the end of the year,” she said. “We’re trying to hunt down first spot at the moment; a couple of crucial games are coming up but finals looks like it’s going to happen for us, so that’s exciting.”
