COURT REPORT
Bannockburn ready for fierce battle
BANNOCKBURN coach Justine Radford says her team will not be reading too much into its win over Thomson earlier in the year when the two sides meet again on Saturday.
The country Tigers had the better of their inner-city rival 46-31 in Round 1, but Radford says much has changed since then for both teams.
“We played them in Round 1 and beat them by 15 goals but both teams have new players, so you can’t base this week’s results off that,” she said.
“We don’t ever go in underestimating Thomson. They’re always going to be a challenge, particularly with the likes of Errin Lang and Shannyn Leach, who have been there for quite a while.
“I know (Thomson coach) Terry (Corry) is a pretty good coach, I’ve had him coach me, so I know he’s quite smart when it comes to positioning players, so we definitely don’t under-estimate them.”
Bannockburn has won its past four games and sits sec- ond, one game behind Werribee Centrals, the last team to defeat it.
The Tigers lost that clash by one goal and Radford said there were signs of improvement out at Victoria Park.
“It’s really good to see that we’ve closed that gap a little bit against Werribee because they dominated us last year,” Radford said.
“We’re having a pretty good run at the moment, I’m happy with how we’re going and our improvement each week.
“But Thomson is always really competitive, and both teams have done pretty well the last few weeks. They’re sitting even with us in points and it’s pretty close with percentage, so it should be a really good game.”
